Michael Kors Goes To Catalina Beach Club

Long Island’s iconic beach club sets the stage for the Resort 2019 lookbook—here’s why.

“I spent my summers with my family going to the Catalina Beach Club on Long Island. I loved watching everyone dress up to go to dinner after a day in the water and sun. It was glamorous, relaxed and very American.”

Michael Kors is going back to his roots this season, setting the tone with a nod to his childhood summers spent with his family at Catalina Beach Club.

Perched on the waterfront of Atlantic Beach, New York, the Catalina Beach Club has been a family-run business for over 70 years. The lovingly maintained Art Deco building has remained virtually unchanged through the years, and has played host to countless shoots, including Vogue and Vanity Fair covers and scenes from Martin Scorsese’s iconic “Goodfellas”.

As for the collection, it’s easy to see how this inspiration has been woven into the designs— from the sporty scuba details and aquatic embellishment to the ocean shades of turquoise, aqua and lapis that match the beach club’s own palette. It’s a playful yet deeply personal collection laced with nostalgia and imbued with the luxe nonchalance of a bygone era—complete with Michael’s signature modern twist.
